I am married to Travis McKellar. We have been married for 5.5 years. He is a super runner and has inspired me to run. We have one little boy and one little girl. We are originally from Utah but are up at BYU-Idaho while Trav finishes his bachelors. I have a bachelor's degree in Family, Consumer, Human Development. I am a stay at home mom and it is the best role in the world!

this week is 25 minutes each running day. next week is 30. the week after that I start my training program. i ran 2 miles in 19 minutes 21 seconds on the track. Then I kept running for a few more laps until I ran 25 minutes. Each lap I am averaging 1 min 47 seconds. I felt good. I felt like I could have just kept running. This is a very good sign!

this run was hard. I hadn't run all weekend. I was supposed to run for 30 minutes, but all I could do was 2 miles. it took 18:43. each mile was about 9:22.

Was determined to run for 30 minutes. I felt really good about this run. I had to go to the bathroom right before I finished mile 1. I ran to the bathroom and then I continued right where I left off on the track. I went 19 laps.Which is 3.45454545.... miles.

I didn't get the exact mile times but I know my first two miles were less than 9 minutes. my third, a little over. I did 3 miles in less than 28 minutes, which I was VERY happy about.

I ended up running 19 laps in 31:38.70. So I averaged about 9 min. 9 sec. miles. VERY happy about this. I hope to just keep getting faster!

18 laps=3.27 miles in 30:33. I averaged a 9:20 mile. A little slower than last run. I was nervous about running today because I wasn't feeling very good and I was having some intestinal issues. I kept telling myself when I would stop, but then I decided that I was just trying to make up excuses to not have to run for 30 minutes. So I decided to quit looking at my watch to see what lap I was on and I would just run. I feel pretty good about my run today.

I felt pretty good. Not very much soreness. I felt like I was breathing super heavy. I am trying to eat better so that my body can feel a little more healthy. I just gotta keep working on it and get in shape. I am okay with my time. I just keep wishing I was faster and I know that it comes slowly with a lot of work. I stretched well afterwards and I feel pretty good. I am tired. Trav and I gotta work something else out as my mileage increases because I will need to run outside and I don't want to run at night, but he trains in the mornings. Maybe during the baby's second nap.

30 min running day. 18 laps. again. total time 30:58.  that is a 9:28 mile. slower than the last few times. my left knee was sore earlier today, but it didn't act up during the run. felt so slow today.

Ran in PC right when we got there. I always love how flat it is. I ran for 30 minutes. My run was about 3.25 miles. 30:05.  Averaging about 9:15 min miles. The wind hurt my ears. I am coming to realize that the first ten minutes of my run are the hardest to get past. Luckily I ran 15 minutes out, so then I just had to turn around and run back. It was a fairly good run. My favorite part was seeing my husband and baby waiting outside to cheer me to my "finish line:"

Ran 4 miles in PC. I ran along a busy road and I did NOT like it. I felt so tired the wholoe time, but had to run in the morning because it was my sister's wedding day.

I was able to use the mile markers to time each mile.

My mom and I went running in Layton, but she got sick. We ran about half a mile and then walked back. Trav felt bad for me and went with me later that night. We went about 2.5 miles. I am not sure how fast we went because I forgot to time it. I DID run up the hill on Antelope which is saying a lot. Trav kept thinking that I was pushing it too hard, so I think we were going faster than usual. I enjoyed the run. Running with my husband makes it feel so much easier.

Ran late in PC. Trav felt bad for me because it was so late and didn't want me to go by myself, so he went with me. It felt so good and so easy. I don't know why it feels so much easier to run with him. Maybe I go slower because I like to carry on a conversation. He is the best husband ever. We ran it in 38:22.  9:36 min miles. Good run. I slacked the rest of the week. My shins have felt a little sore.

I had a GREAT run today. I don't know what got into me. I ran on the track. The first ten minutes were hard as usual, but I was going fast. It was my fastest pace for 3 miles. EVER.

Ran three miles today on the track. Took longer than Monday but was still fast...for me :)

I averaged 8 min. 52 sec miles. Total time was 26:36

I tried to take shorter strides to prevent injury. I feel like it makes me go slower though, so I am not sure how I feel about it. I have been eating a TINY bit healthier. Maybe that is helping a little. I took ibuprofen Monday night for the knee soreness and I think I will probably be taking some tonight too.

Tonight again, I just had to get past the first ten minutes and then I was like, I can do this! Easy! Just gotta get past that first mile!

met my sister at the track and ran 3 miles. she has a bad knee so we went a little slower. I didn't mind taking it easy since I pushed it a little in my alst two runs.

28:28 was our total time. that's about a 9:30 mile. I felt pretty good. didn't feel like giving up at all. saturday is four. I plan to run outside depending on the weather. I am nervous about finding a place without a million hills.

I ran today with my sister. 4 miles. She wanted to run on main street. It wasn't a good route. There were tons of stop lights and I think they were red almost every time. I took travs garmin, so luckily I could just turn when a light was red and keep running and it kept track. My sister has a bad back and knee, so I think that may have slowed me down a bit as well as talking too much. oh well, I got it done. even though I don't like how slow it is.

Three miles. New shoes. Ran with Kristina. Indoor track. I went a little farther than the 16.5 laps because I know the track is measured a little short for miles. It took me 26:35.

Average miles 8:52. Kristina ran first and last mile with me. I think my second mile was the fastest. Felt good.

five miles. I was nervous for this run. I used my old shoes. Right now they are more comfortable and they are lighter. I will wear the new shoes this next week to break them in some more and get used to them before I do longer runs.

Those first 10 minutes always are just hard for me to get past. I feel that I did well though and it finally started just feeling "easy". I am pleased with how the run went. I took Trav's garmin. If I could gaurantee I would be running for forever, I would buy one.

three miles. indoor track. I went a quarter more of the track since I think it is measured short.

I took off super fast at the beginning and a lot of my laps were under 1:30, which is unusual.

It was hard because I really tried to push it. Knee had a little bit of pain, but it wasn't bad.

The wind has been super bad lately...such is rexburg. Yesterday I tried running and the wind was so strong I actually ran in place for a while. Today I went to the indoor track and I realized that i forgot my watch AND my ipod. So I just walked over to the fitness center and ran on a treadmill. It was so hard! I ran three miles in 28:25. It took a lot of positive self talk to make myself stay on for the full three miles, but I did it!

tried to make up for some of the miles I missed this week. kristina and i just went out and ran 2 miles. first mile was dowhill took 8:55.83. Mile back took 9:51.87, for a total of 18:47.70. Felt like an average run to me. That hill is a killer!

five miles. Trav came along on his bike. I had felt like I had to pee for quite a while, but I usually just hold it. Well, about mile 3.5, without ANY sort of warning, it all just came flooding out. it was pretty much equal to the feeling I had when my water broke. not very pleasant. I ran off course and starting laugh-crying. I stopped my blue watch, but we also took trav's garmin.  it was raining, snowing, super windy, and despite the little "accident"...I had a really good time. took it very easy. I really love when Trav comes with me.

six miles. 45 degrees. I wore shorts and a tshirt.

I wore my adidas because i still didn;'t want to risk cutting my ankle and having to stop during my long run.

Almost a mile into it I realized that I didn't have my ipod, but I still did okay.

It felt pretty good, besides my left pinky toe and my left knee started feeling uncomfortable, but I was able to run through it. hopefully taking tomorrow off will help.

I took trav's garmin and one mile and two miles is a little closer than I have been counting, so that is good.

very bad run. was supposed to go 5 miles. my knees were hurting and then i got a super bad side ache. I have never had a side ache this bad. I tried to push through it. I had to walk just after 3.16 miles. Then I ran for a bit and then had to stop once again at 4 miles. It took me 42 minutes.

i think i did this run in about 48 minutes.  my watch skipped ahead and said I had run more than I had.

I ran the whole way though. no walking. My knee hurt around mile 3 and the pain left around mile 4

8 today with travis. after mile two the knee started hurting. then the ankle. it is the most frustrating thing and I get super grumpy when this happens. I was seriously having like 12 minute miles when this was happening. Then the pain left a little before 5 miles. I sped up a little and I felt pretty good. The pain came back just a tiny bit on and off, but it wasn't anything that was bothering me too bad thankfully. I still had a super slow run. But at least I didn't walk. I ended up running it 1:23:56. So frustrating. Thats an average time of 10:30 per mile. Trav thinks that I should jog around a bit before my run, then stretch, then do my run. I think he may be on to something, because my body seems to work past my pain after about two miles. So it may need a warm up and some stretching. Hope it works.

Awesome run. My mom was up here and we went together. We talked the whole time and it kept my mind of running. My knee harldy had any pain. It was AWESOME! I hope it will stay this way!

Ran with my mom around 5:30 am. It was a good run. I took it pretty easy... as my time shows. 9.04 miles in 1:35:08.  I am not thrilled with the time, but I was able to hold a conversation the whole time, I stopped for a drink at the park, almost threw up when I tried an e-gel for the first time, and dry heaved for a tiny bit twice. I feel that I did pretty good for how easy I was trying to take it and for all the little things that could have thrown me off. When I started dry heaving, I just ran faster until it went away. And it's nothing short of a miracle that my knee really didn't bother me much at all. That's what I have been praying for. These last two runs with my mom have been awesome. I hope they go this well when she isn't here next week...and the 7 weeks after that!

not all that great, but for the complications we ran into, it wasn't horrible.

we took off running while my dad drove the car to the end of the course. we took a wrong path and got lost. we ran to a bridge over the freeway and stopped at 1.43 miles (stopping always KILLS my knee)

about 15 minutes later, we found the right trail and started again. right when we started the wind started blowing super super hard. It was like I was running in place. I even got blown off the path at one point. my mom had to grab my hand a seriously pull me for a little bit. that's what i get for only being 93 pounds. my knee was hurting super bad. a while later I had to pee. so we went off the path and i went. so frustrating. i didn't stop my watch for this break. this was a really really long run. very hard mentally and physically. I am wishing i didn't sign up for a night time race. we should have signed up for top of utah (daytime and downhill!) oh well.

mile 1-   9:12 (on a dirt path very dark...we took this first mile way too fast)

i feel great about this run. it is less than 9:50 second miles. I felt that i could just keep running and running even when i was at 10. trav was with me encouraging me. i liked the route. it was good. my knee had minimal pain throughout. it started hurting a little more than i cared for around mile 9 through the end, but otherwise i felt great.

Good run. Bad recover.

Three miles at the gym. It was fine. Not my best, not bad either. An average run. Average time, average feeling, etc.

I think it was about 27 minutes.

After I stopped running my knee was hurting and it was really stiff. While walking to cool down, i had to just stop walking. i couldn't bend my knee. I had to call Trav to bring my bike home while i drove home. I couldn't bend my knee for a few hours. It is feeling okay, with a little pain here and there. taking a few days off. i really hope i can get back on track.

was supposed to run five. trav had to stay home with baby. didn't want to run in dark. just did three.

my knee was hurting a little bit at the end. at three i kept jogging because i knew a terrible pain would come afterwards. when i finally began to walk i just about collapsed. I had to keep my leg straight in order to walk. unfortunately i think it may be starting in the other knee. I had to limp home. someone even pulled over and asked me if i needed a ride, but i was right by my house at that point. otherwise i would have taken it. at least my time was pretty good.

After this weeks run, i was too scared to do 10 miles.

and trav runs in the morning so by the time i get to go it is like 80 degrees.

I wore my runner's knee band hoping it would help. I think it was helping for a while. I felt that maybe i took my run a little fast the day before so for the downhill first mile, i tried to relax a little and slow it down....that is why i was surprised when i saw my time.

Mile 1- 8:50   whoops!

mile 2- 9:14   at this point i was feeling pretty good and i decided i would probably do six miles.

then i fell. and that changed everything. my foot hit the pavement too soon and i felt like i was flying sooo fast. I kept putting my hands down to try and catch myself early, but my body was going way to fast. my fingers would hit the pavement over and over until finally my palms hit and slid for a while. i was trying to protect my face and legs. luckily my shoes and hands were the only parts of my body touching the pavement. it probably looked pretty darn funny. but i went straight from my hands and feet on the ground to running. my hands were hurting but i was fine. for a little bit. Then the knee pain came. not sure if it was from the terribly akward fall or if it would have happened either way. I debated whether to run five or six. after running around the park a few times and my knee started really hurting I decided I would take a little short cut home and just do five.

unfortunately i think i have reached the point where i can't just run through the pain anymore and just expect it to leave after a mile or so. i don't know quite what to do about my training anymore.

I ran for another minute or so and then slowed to a walk. tried to trick myself into walking like a normal person without pain. finally i gave in  and limped home again.

this run went MUCH better than the last three. My knee started hurting around 2.15 and then dulled a bit probably after 3.5.

after my run, i jogged slowly for about .8 mile. then i slowed into a walk....and my knee didn't freak out! I was so scared to walk because that is when it usually goes really bad. I was also praying for almost my entire run. Hopefully i will keep being blessed. at least to be able to train for and run this race.

mile 1- 8:47 (what?! I was NOT trying to go this fast. I tried taking it easy! I don't know why this mile keeps getting so much faster!)

horrible awful. at least trav came with me. otherwise i would have given up mid-run

the first mile felt good. thats about it. my knee hurt through much of it. my chest was tight for a few miles and i felt like i couldn't breathe. basically it sucked.

this run felt pretty good. my knee didn't have much pain at all until just after mile 4. that came and went fairly quickly. by mile 5 it was pretty constant but I only had a mile left. I kept running for about a minute after six miles. still by the time i stopped the pain was pretty apparent and i had to limp home. I am discouraged with my knee but happy with how the run went and that I didn't have any 10 minute or higher miles. I am hoping the knee continues to improve.

I have slacked on bloggin the past while....mainly because running had not been going well. I have been battling with a knee injury for the past little while so the last three weeks I haven't really been running. I biked a few times...12 miles, 18 miles, 36 miles, 12 miles. This last week I ran 3 miles, and the week before that I ran 3 miles. So I hadn't done much running before the race.

The race started in salt lake and went to farmington. it was kind of fun to be wearing glow in the dark stuff. it wasn't so fun to hardly be able to see spectators and sometimes I would stumble on the ground when it raised or lowered at all. But overall, I have mostly good memories.

My mom ran it with me. I used my gps running watch, but it lost satellite a few times under overpasses.

The first few miles we did just over 9 minute miles and then we slowed a bit. My body was reacting surprisingly well to the amount of running i had not done. My knees hardly had ANY pain. What a miracle that was!

Trav and my dad were at mile 9. It was good to see them. he made me a sign. He is such a good support. I wish I could keep running just to have that all the time.

After I saw them my body started getting pretty tired and we slowed down a bit. At mile 11 i swallowed some water down the wrong pipe and had to stop for a few short seconds to cough, but then i kept going. my body just wanted to STOP. but I just pushed it. At mile 12 my mom said, its ok we can slow down if you need. we just need to finish. she could tell I was struggling...she could have left me in the dust many miles earlier. I realized we had 1.1 miles left and exactly ten minutes to reach my goal of 2:15. And I said, no we have exactly 10 minutes to run this mile! so, we took off. My mom had a burst of energy and was booking it. My bosy still was dragging but I was pushing with everything I had.

I hated the last mile. There were a lot of turns. tons of sprinklers and obstacles, and then the road to the finish line was just a bunch of little pebbles and rocks so every step i took I would just sink into the ground. It made for an uneventful finish. my mom and I held hands and she sort of pulled me along into the finish line.

my mom got third place in her age division...missing first by 61 seconds. if she would have left me she would have blown away the first place in her age by at least a few minutes. not bad for her first half marathon.

I was and still am very happy that I reached my goal, especially because i don't think I will be able to run another half marathon. I will have to stick to shorter distances unfortunately. we will leave the long mileages to my husband.

I dont know if you will ever see this comment, because of your retirement and all... But you did amazing, I was and still am very proud of you. I cant believe the pain you are able to push through.
